It was a tale of two days at the 2022 Hollinger Golf Club Labour Day 3-Man Challenge as Saturday welcomed the players with cold and windy conditions throughout the day as temperatures floated around 12 degrees before warming up for a beautiful Fall Championship Sunday.
The Hollinger welcomed 204 players for this year’s edition of the tournament that took place on the usual Labour Day weekend, with some familiar names topping the leaderboard once again.
Joey Merenda, Mike Bilodeau and Chris Cooke fired a two-day total of 122, edging out the team of O’Donnell, Paquette and Cote by 1 stroke and the team of Milet, Audet and Ouimette by 2, who finished the weekend with respective totals of 123 & 124.
As is tradition for the Labour Day tournament, players finished both days flirting with daylight as #9 and #18 green were lit up by the on-site skylight.
When asked about the weekend, Hollinger’s GM of Golf Operations Taylor Dupuis was pleased with the outcome;
“I think anytime you welcome that many players, you know the challenge that lies ahead. We know that lack of daylight is always a concern and when unforeseen circumstances arise, you deal with it on the fly and hope your efforts come through.”
The unforeseen circumstances mentioned relates to cart issues that the club endured as a number of carts went down on both Saturday and Sunday, causing concern for players and their ability to finish with adequate daylight. Dupuis was quick to praise all staff for their outstanding efforts in making sure the weekend was a success;
“We certainly fell behind a little bit waiting on carts, but unfortunately it was out of our control. We had to focus on what we could control and that was doing the best we could in getting players out as fast as we could. Brent and his team along with our starters and marshals did a great job in managing the situation and we were able to get everyone in on time. A shoutout is in order for our kitchen and beverage staff for the great service all weekend.”
